Provides emergency shelter to families at three locations in Chicago and one in Harvey. Residents are given basic needs, social services, counseling, and referral to other services as needed. Maximum length of stay is 120 days. Shelters accessible through intake and referral sites.

Provides a transitional living program in an alcohol/drug free environment for men who have become homeless primarily due to alcoholism and drug addiction. Program includes: initial application interview; intake and assessment; structured days; balanced meals; rehabilitative work training; individual counseling; recovery groups; holistic education and employment opportunities. Minimal rent is charged. Clients recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction are required to have completed an inpatient treatment program or to have had a successful period of sobriety.

Problem assessment counseling on an individual or family/group basis for adults 18 or older affected with alcohol/drug related problems, information and referral to appropriate resources; outpatient counseling for recovering addicts and alcoholics and/or their families; educational/informational community presentations. ACES is licensed by the State of Illinois Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse to treat substance abuse. ACES is licensed to do level one and level two counseling on a one-on-one and/or group setting. Medicaid is accepted.

Services to Families - Family and Aged provides professional problem-solving and counseling services to families and individuals who are experiencing a wide range of social and personal problems. These problems may include: family violence, substance abuse and addiction, sexual abuse, homelessness, a trauma such as suicide, family issues related to aging parents, homicide, disability, illness such as HIV, incest, parent-child issues and other problems that affect the family's or individual's ability to cope. Services may be one or a combination of the following: responding to a crisis, referral to a needed service, help with accessing services, advocacy, help with developing a plan of action and following through, money management, professional counseling and family therapy. People may receive services in their home, and Spanish-speaking staff are available.

On site services include rental assistance, food and clothing help, assistance with securing a state I.D. card, distribution of CTA fare cards, shelter referrals, referrals to employment, recovery or mental health assistance programs, and individual case management. The EDSSC also coordinates a Sunday Night Meal throughout the year for anyone who wishes to attend.
